Foutch's Pub is a small little pub on the corner of Linden Rd. and Corunna Rd. in Flint.
A few friends had told me about this place and said it was a good time so I decided to try it out. I do know the current manager of this place, but I will not be biased in my review.
The first thing I noticed right away when I walked in was how small the place was. It was shockingly small. I stayed and gave it a shot anyway. It does have a great comfortable atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. After awhile I noticed a few waitresses and even the manager I know getting up on the bar and dancing. Kind of gave it a coyote ugly feeling to it. I thought it might had just been a one time spur of the moment thing, but I guess it's a normal occurrence and even some female customers get up there and join in. Of course all of the gentleman patrons loved this. I have to admit that I liked it as well.
At first I was not impressed with the karaoke at all. The song selection was weak, the sound just OK, and the karaoke host did not know how to put reverb on the vocals. The versions of the karaoke songs was also pretty weak. I do a song by Phil Collins called " In the air tonight" that does require some delay in the vocals to sound right, but I was going to do it anyway until it started and the music sounded like it was being played on a cheap 99 dollar keyboard. It was so bad that after the first 15 seconds of the intro I asked him to stop it and said never mind and picked another song.
I was pretty disappointed after hearing all the good things about this place from quite a few friends. After talking with my manager friend I was pleased to hear that this was not the regular karaoke host and that he could not make it that night so some other guy came and used the house system and had no idea how to use it properly.
I had also heard great things about the food so I took the recommendation from my friend and tried a sandwich called "The Cuban". It was delicious. I was very impressed. I decided to give the place another chance the following Thursday. I'm glad I did. It was a good time and the regular karaoke host was there. What a difference. He had a much better song selection and had everything sounding very good. He even had better versions of the songs as well as how to work the system to give reverb or delay on the vocals when needed.
I tried something different on the menu this time to see if the Cuban sandwich was the only thing on the menu that was good or if they really did have some good food. This time I ordered the chicken quesadilla. I was impressed again. It was amazing. The third time I was there I tried the hamburger and it was good, but not amazing. I hear their pizza is really good so I will try that next.
There is a poker place right next door that must have the same owners because there is a door connecting the two and the men's bathroom is located over there while the woman's is in the main bar. The poker room is huge: maybe too big. I think they should move the wall over to make the bar a little bigger. It does get pretty crowded in the bar when its busy. I even have heard a rumor that they just might do that, but it was just a rumor.
In conclusion: I do think it's a pretty cool pub with really good food and the karaoke is great when the regular karaoke host is there. It's definitely worth checking out on a Thursday. If you live on that side of town there is really no other place nice to go to in that area.
